Rome, August 21 (LaPresse) – "Italy is following with deep concern the recent developments regarding decisions made by the Israeli government concerning the situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and firmly reaffirms its commitment to peace, security, and respect for international law," said Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
"In particular," she added, "the decision to proceed with the occupation of Gaza, in response to Hamas’s inhumane terrorist attack on October 7, 2023, represents a further military escalation that can only worsen an already dramatic humanitarian situation. What is instead needed is a collective effort to achieve a ceasefire and the release of hostages, while strengthening international efforts to ensure urgently needed humanitarian aid for the civilian population in the Strip."
"Italy," she continued, "will continue to support the work of mediators in this direction and is ready to do its part in a post-conflict scenario."
