Tajani: ‘In September, the centre-right will choose the best candidates, no quotas’

Rome, 22 August (LaPresse) – ‘I have not changed my mind: it will not be a question of quotas, but of choosing the best. FI is moving in this direction for all roles, whether they be authorities or candidates. So, in September, we will all decide together.’ This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Forza Italia leader Antonio Tajani in an interview with Corriere della Sera on the upcoming regional elections. When asked when the centre-right will decide on its candidates, he replied: ‘Right now we are focused on the Marche region, where we are confident that we, as FI, will also achieve great results. Then there will be elections in Valle d'Aosta, where there is proportional representation, and in Calabria, where Occhiuto will run again.’ On the Zaia list in Veneto, he added: “I am not in favour of the list because parties stand in elections, not party representatives with their own lists, even if they are strong and influential. Here too, the choice will have to fall on those who are most likely to do well, even if we are favoured in Veneto”. On Edomndo Cirielli's candidacy in Campania, he comments: ‘The best option would be a civic candidate, but I believe that Cirielli is an authoritative and capable figure, we have no preconceptions.’ Puglia and Tuscany? "If there is no civic candidate, I think Mauro D'Attis is the best candidate we could put forward. In Tuscany, we will decide on the candidate soon. In the meantime, we will put all our local MPs at the top of the list because it is an important election.‘ On the candidate for Milan, he said: ’We will need a civic candidate. There are several possibilities around which we can build a majority composed of the centre-right and Azione."
