Naples, 24 August (LaPresse) – "In Calabria, one in two citizens lives in poverty, twice the European average. Politics cannot turn a blind eye. We will focus first and foremost on healthcare. We will introduce a dignity income and we will make it work because we will link it to a genuine reform of active policies. We will use European funds to finance it, and there is also a recommendation from the EU Commission in favour of it." These were the words of Pasquale Tridico, MEP for the Five Star Movement, in an interview with Corriere della Sera the day after announcing his candidacy for president of the Calabria Region for the centre-left coalition. Tridico thanked “the national leaders and regional secretaries of the progressive front for their trust and expressed his heartfelt thanks to the many Calabrians who supported his candidacy. I sense a great desire to turn the page. With his resignation, Occhiuto has shown that he uses the popular vote as a shield against the judicial investigations involving him, but in a democracy no one is above the law”.
