Rome, August 30 (LaPresse) – "We at Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra have never placed any vetoes on Antonio Decaro, a person we respect and have defended from attacks by the right in Bari. That’s why we were surprised by his ultimatum on the candidacies: the lists of Avs are decided by Avs," said Angelo Bonelli in an interview with Quotidiano Nazionale today. He added, "I understand the request for discontinuity from Michele Emiliano’s management, which we also support, but it is unacceptable to impose vetoes on our candidates." Regarding the Vendola case, Bonelli clarified: "It’s not appropriate to talk about it now. Nichi has stepped aside for over ten years, so it is not comparable to those seeking a third term. As Avs, we have always been against the feudal consolidation of local power. I myself have been critical of Vendola over Ilva, but today I share his critical analyses." Bonelli reiterated the line: "We are honest and loyal, concepts now lost in Italian politics. We confirm respect and support for Decaro, but without vetoes on our lists. A coalition aspiring to govern cannot rely solely on a Pd-M5S axis: balance is needed, and Avs, which is growing across the country, is not a marginal force but a key player in building a credible alliance." Finally, a warning to the Pd: "If the Democratic Party were to support vetoes against Vendola, we too would feel justified in imposing our own, not only in Apulia. The responsibility we take on as builders of alliances must not be mistaken for weakness."
