Justice reform, La Russa: ‘Fdi wants it, but without a battle with the judiciary’

Milan, 5 Nov. (LaPresse) – ‘We on the right have always been the most reluctant to wage war on magistrates. Think of the MSI with Mani Pulite, or AN, which preferred to separate the functions. Today, FdI's verbal attitude and stance are those of someone who wants reform, but without fighting the judiciary.’ This is what Senate President Ignazio La Russa said in an interview with the daily newspaper La Repubblica, commenting on justice reform. On his past opposition to the separation of careers, La Russa clarified: "It was AN's position, which believed it could achieve a useful result without constitutional reform. We “wise men” agreed on the separation of functions. It was to be the first step towards the separation of careers, which was already being discussed. Fini put the brakes on. And so did I. So you can't say we didn't want it, rather, we didn't want it then.‘ ’The least important part of the reform is precisely the separation of careers,‘ emphasises the President of the Senate, ’perhaps we could have focused more on the second part, the one that changes the CSM and subjects it to a draw. I said this the other day to Nordio over lunch. I understand that the separation is symbolic, but it matters less than the rest. The real goal, he confirmed to me, is to limit the currents with the draw and subject judges to third-party disciplinary control."
