Rome, 15 November (LaPresse) – ‘The challenges facing Puglia and Campania are crucial for the future of the South and the country.’ This was stated by the leader of the PD in the Senate, Francesco Boccia, in an interview with Il Mattino in Naples. According to the Democratic Party senator, the two regions ‘have changed the destiny of the South more than others’ thanks to a path of ‘real growth, investment and new attractiveness’. Boccia defends the role of the outgoing governors: "If Puglia and Campania are driving the South today, it is also thanks to those who have led these regions. Vendola opened a new season, Emiliano brought it to Europe; De Luca guaranteed institutional stability and constant investment.‘ On a political level, Boccia rejects the idea that regional elections are “localistic” votes: ’Italy cannot afford solitary leaders or territories that go it alone. We need political communities and parties capable of holding territories and national perspectives together.‘ In this context, the alliance between the PD, the centre-left and candidates Antonio Decaro and Roberto Fico is, for him, ’fundamental to making the South a driver of Italian growth and building an alternative for 2027."
