Milan, 18 November (LaPresse) – ‘We asked the Prime Minister's Office to withdraw the plan and to have Prime Minister Meloni intervene directly. They said no, and we decided, of course, to declare a strike starting tomorrow.’ This was stated by Fiom leader Michele De Palma, speaking to journalists after the meeting at Palazzo Chigi between the government, trade unions and commissioners of Acciaierie d'Italia on the former Ilva. The focus of the meeting, which lasted about four hours, began in the early afternoon and was suspended for about an hour, was the plan presented by the government last week, which includes, among other things, the transfer of another 1,550 workers (for a total of 6,000) to the CIG (wage guarantee fund) from January, a plan that the trade unions have asked to be withdrawn.
