Government, Garofani: ‘Disappointed, it was just chit-chat between friends’

Rome, 19 Nov. (LaPresse) – ‘I am very disappointed, for myself and my family. But what hurts most is the feeling of having been used to attack the president.’ This was stated by Francesco Saverio Garofani, advisor to the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, in an interview with Corriere della Sera. Garofani had recently made headlines after the newspaper La Verità attributed quotes to him regarding a ‘providential shake-up’ to be carried out against the government majority. “It was a casual chat between friends,” Garofani said, adding that he had “never made any inappropriate statements or sought the limelight”. As for President Mattarella's reaction, “He was very affectionate,” Garofani explained, “he told me, ‘Don't worry, don't take it personally.’”
