Rome, 20 November (LaPresse) – ‘I believe that the amount of the RAI licence fee should be maintained in order to maintain market balance.’ This was stated by the leader of the Forza Italia senators, Maurizio Gasparri, on Eurovisioni, responding to the proposal put forward by the Lega. "There is a problem with the balance of advertising resources. A few years ago, the licence fee was reduced and Rai was compensated with resources from the Treasury and therefore from citizens. It is a roundabout transaction that serves no purpose. The public service must have certainty of resources, as provided for in the European Media Freedom Act. This amendment by the Lega is therefore not in line with the directive. Instead, it is necessary to finance the publishing fund rather than raising the advertising ceiling on Rai, a solution that would sink newspapers because it is the network that absorbs resources."
