Rome, Dec. 21 (LaPresse) – “Providing for a further cut to the Rai licence fee is irresponsible, as well as an evident violation of the European Media Freedom Act. Rai must have stable and certain resources, while every year we are forced to witness this absurd dance of amendments. Now the reduction would be ‘only’ 10 million euros for 2026. Just a few days ago, a cut of 30 million over the 2026–28 three-year period was being envisaged. This is not serious at all. Instead of using Rai to raise cash, the government should approve a reform that truly makes the public broadcaster autonomous. Only in this way can resources be managed properly by leadership chosen for competence and not for affiliation, as unfortunately happens now.” This is stated in a note from the Usigrai executive.
