Turin, 29 December (LaPresse) – Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, together with other European leaders, had a telephone conversation this evening with President Trump and President Zelensky, following their meeting in Florida. According to a statement from Palazzo Chigi, the call provided an opportunity to take stock of the peace process for Ukraine and the next steps towards achieving a just and lasting peace. President Trump and President Zelensky outlined the results achieved in the ongoing negotiations, with particular reference to the issue of security guarantees, and indicated the issues still open. President Meloni reiterated the importance of cohesion among partners at a time when the negotiation process is making progress. The need to maintain maximum convergence on issues affecting the vital interests of Ukraine and its European partners was also reiterated. Finally, it was agreed, the note concludes, that it is up to Russia to demonstrate a sense of responsibility and openness to negotiation, showing a real willingness to bring about the cessation of hostilities.
