Milan, Jan. 6 (LaPresse) – “Yet another flip-flop by Giorgia Meloni. Painful for the international credibility of our country. In the video, there is a lot of patriotism mixed with references to international law. It’s the ‘Giorgia Meloni 2018’ version. Now that she is in government representing Italy and should be defending these positions, international law only counts to a certain extent, patriotism has given way to extreme subservience, and the Prime Minister has made one of the most embarrassing European-level statements on Venezuela, from which even other members of her government have distanced themselves.” This was written on Facebook by M5S leader Giuseppe Conte, posting a speech by Giorgia Meloni in the Chamber of Deputies.

“So according to Meloni, a unilateral military attack against a sovereign state and a sitting president (whoever that may be) has become ‘legitimate’ and in line with international law? And who is defending European and Italian interests in the new global disorder? With a single statement praising the US operation, the ‘Giorgia Meloni 2026’ version has trampled on international law, as well as the dignity of our people and Italy’s credibility. With one statement, Meloni has sunk years of talk about sovereignism in the vast sea of her total subservience to the Washington ally,” Conte concludes.
