Rome, Jan. 27 (LaPresse) – On the ongoing investigation into the Crans-Montana events, “when we talk about Switzerland we are mistaken, we must talk about the Canton because it is the Canton that has responsibility, the procedure is entirely cantonal. It is the Canton that carries out the judicial activity. The only thing that can be done is to change the cantonal magistrates, however it is a request that must be made by the prosecutor’s office. We say that, given how things have gone, the investigations have prejudiced the rights of Italian citizens because the arrest occurred late; they themselves said there was a risk of flight; the repetition of the offense unfortunately we have discovered that there is also that; the contamination of evidence is probable. And so why leave them free? Bail for something so serious, with dozens and dozens of dead and hundreds injured, cannot be 200,000 Swiss francs. If you want to send a signal, set bail at 1 million Swiss francs because the law provides for it. These are all things that leave one aghast. I repeat, the problem is not Switzerland as such; Switzerland is not the issue, it is the Canton that is conducting the investigations where the disaster occurred.” This was said by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, speaking at the Quirinale at the end of the celebration of the ‘Day of Remembrance’.
