C.sinistra, S.Salis: ‘Divisive primaries – now let’s focus on projects and objectives’

Milan, 26 March (LaPresse) – “Those 14.5 million people who voted ‘No’ are not asking how we choose our leader, but for proposals on employment, healthcare, security and the tax burden.” This was stated by the Mayor of Genoa, Silvia Salis, speaking to *La Stampa*, emphasising that “in the face of the government’s confusion, we should be talking about plans and objectives.” The primaries to select the centre-left’s prime ministerial candidate, Salis adds, “are a tool for public participation, but in this case I consider them divisive”, because “they would give the right-wing ammunition to attack us on our differences”. According to Salis, ‘there could be an internal process for selecting a leader, or everyone could go to the elections with their own leader and then decide who best represents the alliance’, but primaries ‘I believe make sense when they serve to celebrate a political journey’.
