Milan, 3 April (LaPresse) – ‘My call – which has yet to be formalised – was to begin a dialogue between us immediately, at least on the major issues, from the war to economic matters. Elly Schlein has already said she is open to this.’ This was stated by Angelo Bonelli, co-leader of AVS, in an interview with “La Stampa”. And Giuseppe Conte? "No, I haven’t heard from him; we’ll wait and see what happens in the coming days. It is legitimate to put oneself forward as a leader and work to strengthen one’s political project. However, I would remind him and all of us that no one can win an election alone,‘ he added. Is AVS caught between Conte and Schlein? ’We believe it is wrong to keep talking about primaries and the choice of leader. It is a debate that does not interest Italians, especially those who voted ‘No’ in the referendum and rallied with us in defence of the Constitution," Bonelli emphasised. Are you opposed to primaries? ‘I think they are not a step that strengthens our coalition, but risk being divisive. We need a discussion amongst ourselves, to decide together, without trying to impose our own point of view on others,’ clarified the AVS MP and co-spokesperson for Europa Verde. According to him, ‘there is a risk that Meloni might consider bringing forward’ the vote ‘to October; we must be prepared for this scenario too. The economic situation is deteriorating; on the right, they fear they will be unable to carry out an “electoral” manoeuvre due to a lack of resources and might decide to avoid it’.
