Security Bill, Schlein: ‘Press ahead despite Colle’s objections – arrogance in power’

Rome, 23 April (LaPresse) – "I ask you, how on earth did you come up with the idea of drafting a provision that reduces the noble profession of the lawyer to a mere executor of the will of those in power regarding repatriation? How did you come up with the idea of drafting a provision that undermines the relationship of trust between the lawyer and the person they are assisting? How did you come up with the idea of drafting a provision that undermines the fundamental constitutional principle of the right to a defence? And how did it occur to you, even in the face of the Quirinale’s objections, instead of stopping, to press ahead, to go on, to have us vote in this chamber on an unconstitutional law only to amend it two minutes later? It is arrogance in power.” So said PD Secretary Elly Schlein, speaking in the Chamber of Deputies whilst the Security Decree was being examined.
