Rome, 29 May (LaPresse) – ‘As early as this weekend, thanks to the work of the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Health, the Civil Protection Department and the AISE, Italy will send a team of experts from the Spallanzani Institute to Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to provide technical assistance, deliver medical supplies and medicines, and strengthen epidemiological surveillance’. This was announced in a statement from Palazzo Chigi, which emphasised that ‘Italy believes that the epidemiological situation in Central Africa linked to the recent outbreak of the Bundibugyo Ebola virus (BVD) in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda requires the utmost attention’. ‘At national level,’ the statement notes, ‘the Ministry of Health, in coordination with the Civil Protection Department, has issued circulars to activate targeted health surveillance and monitoring protocols for travellers returning from the affected regions.’
