Cross-Country Skiing: Tour de Ski, Amundsen Wins 20km at Drei Zinnen

Rome, Dec. 31 (LaPresse) – Harald Østberg Amundsen delivered an outstanding performance, dominating the 20km individual freestyle race in Dobbiaco, the third stage of the Tour de Ski. On the scenic loop towards the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, the Norwegian clocked a time of 44’05"3, leaving his compatriot Simen Hegstad Krüger 21"2 behind. Britain’s Andrew Musgrave completed the day’s podium at 28"4, followed by another trio of Norwegians: Ree, Klæbo, and Jenssen.

It was a tough day for the Italians. Elia Barp was the best among them, finishing 23rd, 1’37 behind Amundsen, despite an early fall. Lorenzo Romano placed 38th (+2’11), Giovanni Ticcò 40th (+2’16), and Paolo Ventura 43rd, followed by Martino Carollo and Simone Daprà. Federico Pellegrino struggled, finishing 2’37 behind the winner, losing his position among the top contenders in the general classification. Behind him, Martin Coradazzi finished 2’45"3 back, Davide Graz 3’18, Michael Hellweger 3’39, and Giacomo Gabrielli 4’55.

After three of the seven scheduled stages, Klæbo retains the lead in the Tour de Ski standings but sees Amundsen closing in, just 16 seconds behind, with American Ben Ogden in third place at 54 seconds. Pellegrino and Barp (pictured by NewsPower) are currently 23rd and 25th, 2’27 and 2’28 behind the leader, respectively.

The women’s race on the same course is scheduled for 2:45 PM. On Wednesday, January 1, 2025, the Tour continues in Dobbiaco with a 15km classical pursuit, starting with the men’s race at 10:30 AM.
