Milan, Jan. 2 (LaPresse) – Paola Egonu has been crowned "the queen of volleyball" for 2024. The Italian player, Olympic champion in Paris, was named the best player in the world by Volleyball World, a platform born from a partnership between the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and CVC Capital Partners. "It’s no surprise that she was named MVP of both the 2024 Nations League and the Paris Games, two of many titles she has won in prestigious national and club competitions throughout her extraordinary career. This year, the star of the Italian national team, who recently turned 26, led Team Italy to another Nations League title and then to unprecedented heights, winning her first Olympic gold medal. Well done, Paola!" read the statement published on Volleyball World’s social media. Egonu topped the special ranking ahead of Brazil’s Gabi and the USA’s Kathryn Plummer.
