Skiing, Brignone: "Happy with the result and how I reacted"

Turin, Jan 12 (LaPresse) – "I’m happy with the result, even though I wasn’t perfect and knew I was beatable. Today’s race was somewhat affected. Macuga delivered an almost flawless performance while everyone else made mistakes; it was a bit more challenging for us early starters because visibility was very poor. It was tough to manage the vibrations under the skis. In the middle of the course, I went a bit wide, but I told myself I needed to make a difference in the final section, and I went strong. Too bad the visibility improved only afterward.”

These were the words of Federica Brignone after her third-place finish in the Super-G World Cup race at St. Anton, a result that puts the Italian back on top of the overall World Cup standings, a title she previously won in the winter of 2020, the only Italian to do so.

"It’s been an amazing weekend; I really love this course," added the Italian skier. "I’m very satisfied with my attitude. I was a bit tense at the start, but I loosened up as I descended, and that’s a great thing. After my fall in Kranjska Gora, I didn’t feel the need to prove anything to others, but I wanted to turn the page quickly, which I managed to do here at St. Anton. It took a couple of days to recover, not so much because of anger but due to the disappointment of making a mistake I knew I could avoid. I was very disappointed with myself, but I’m equally happy with my reaction.

I don’t want to think too much about the standings. I’m trying to ski my best race after race, and I think I’m managing quite well. Now, let’s see how calm I can stay and how much energy I can preserve for the Cortina and Kromplatz stops. I have unfinished business with the Olympia delle Tofane, and I’ll do my best during the home weekend.”
