Milan, Jan. 17 (LaPresse) – Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini's Australian Open got off to the best possible start. The golden couple of Italian tennis started their journey in the first Slam of the season beating the Australian wild cards Priscilla Hon and Daria Saville 6-1, 7-5. The break in the first game launched the Italians in the first set, without history, which ended with an oversized rebound smash by Saville. The second set was more hard-fought, with the Italians coming back from 3-5 down and closing on the second match point, thanks to a wide diagonal forehand from the left by Hon. Having been drawn at the top of the draw, that of the Czech Siniakova and the American Townsend, the reigning Wimbledon champions and top seeds, already in the third round, Errani and Paolini will now face Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider, who began 2025 by triumphing in the Brisbane 500. It will be a re-run of the final of the Paris Olympic Games.
