Turin, 1 February (LaPresse) – On the European night between Friday 31 January and Saturday 1 February, Milwaukee was the scene of the opening day of the fourth stage of the World Cup in long track speed skating. The Italian night was illuminated above all by the light of Francesca Lollobrigida (Aeronautica Militare), who returned to success in the World Cup after more than three years. The almost 34-year-old from Frascati won the 3,000 metres, setting a new record on the US track (3'54"73) and skating just 30 hundredths off the national record she already held. The experienced Italian skater beat the Norwegian Ragne Wiklund (3'54‘86) and the Dutch Joy Beune (3'55’86). Davide Ghiotto was excellent second in the 5000 metres. The skater from Vicenza, back from the fantastic world record in the 10,000 metres last week in Calgary, finished in 6.06"83, being preceded only by the Norwegian Sander Eitrem.
