Rome, 17 Feb (LaPresse) – Jannik Sinner overtook Carlos Alcaraz for the number of weeks at the top of the Atp ranking. The Italian begins his 37th week at the top of the ranking, and may be able to present himself at the Internazionali d'Italia, the first tournament in which he will return to the court after the agreement with Wada, still as number 1. Sinner could thus become the tenth player to complete at least 52 weeks in a row as world number 1 since the computerised ranking introduced in 1973 after Roger Federer (237 between February 2004 and August 2008), Jimmy Connors (one of 160 weeks in a row and one of 84), Ivan Lendl (one of 157 and one of 80 weeks), Novak Djokovic (series of 122, 86, 53 and 52 weeks), Pete Sampras (series of 102 and 82 weeks), Lleyton Hewitt (75), John McEnroe (one of 58 and one of 53), Rafael Nadal (56) and Andre Agassi (52). Sinner leads the group of eleven Italians in the Top 100. Two are the most significant movements: Arnaldi gained four positions thanks to the semi-final at Delray Beach (34), Francesco Passaro celebrated his new best ranking (89, +3).
