Turin, 20 Feb (LaPresse) – ‘I can't help thinking that the injured Pep Guardiola needs another sabbatical’. It is columnist Oliver Brown who wrote this in the ‘Telegraph’ after Manchester City's defeat against Real Madrid caused the English club's exit from the Champions League before the quarter-finals for the first time in seven seasons. ‘Just 21 months after winning the Triplete, the foundations of the team Pep built have not just collapsed, as much as liquefied,’ it further reads. The tone is similar in much of the English press, which reiterates: ‘Manchester City humiliated by Real Madrid in European clash’. And again: ‘Manchester City players endured a night to forget’, and ‘Pep Guardiola's team is humiliated’. In the Times we read: ‘City have been outclassed, eliminated and given the impression they no longer belong at the table of honour in European football’.
