Tennis, WTA ranking: Paolini seventh, Sabalenka is increasingly the leader

Rome, March 17 (LaPresse) – Almost all changes in the Italian women’s rankings published this morning by the WTA after the conclusion of the third WTA 1000 event of the season at Indian Wells are negative. Once again, three Italians are in the top 100. The leader among the Italians remains Jasmine Paolini, who, after being stopped in the round of 16 on the Californian hard court by Samsonova, takes another step backward. The 29-year-old from Bagni di Lucca is now in seventh place. Just behind her, Lucia Bronzetti remains unchanged in 62nd position, while Elisabetta Cocciaretto slides back ten spots, now ranked 82nd. Sara Errani also loses six positions: the Italian veteran, ranked in the top ten in doubles, is now 124th. Martina Trevisan gains one position, after falling out of the top 100 last September following 32 consecutive months of being ranked in the top 100, now ranked 136th, while Lucrezia Stefanini steps back, now ranked 146th. Nuria Brancaccio moves up four spots to 185th, while Giorgia Pedone drops two spots, now ranked 201st. Nicole Fossa Huergo drops four spots to 266th, while Camilla Rosatello, thanks to her quarterfinals in the ITF $60,000 event in Targu Mures, Romania, gains 26 spots, now ranked 305th, closing the Italian top ten. This week, Paolini, Bronzetti, and Cocciaretto are in the main draw of the WTA 1000 event in Miami on the hard courts of Florida (where Stefanini is at the decisive round of qualifying).
