Rome, May 3 (LaPresse) – The Mixed Doubles Curling World Championships, taking place in Fredericton (northeastern Canada), have entered the knockout stage, and Italy advanced in dominant fashion. The duo of Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner (both from Fiamme Oro) won all 9 round robin matches, finishing first in Group A and earning direct access to the semifinals.
In the European night between Friday and Saturday, the Azzurri faced Estonia (Marie Kaldvee/Harri Lill) for a spot in the final. It was an intense match, with the Italian pair trailing 2–4 after four ends. They turned the game around in the fifth end, scoring three points, and the match followed the hammer rule closely, with Italy winning 7–6 in the extra end.
With this, Constantini/Mosaner extended their winning streak to 21 matches across the Olympics and World Championships, and secured a guaranteed medal—an unprecedented feat for Italian curling in mixed doubles at a World Championship. Moreover, it's a historic result as no Italian curling team had ever reached a final at any kind of World Championship.
The goal now is to claim the world title, three years after their Olympic gold in Beijing 2022. The gold medal match will begin at 7:00 p.m. CET on Saturday, May 3. Italy will face Scotland (Jennifer Dodds/Bruce Mouat), whom they already defeated in the round robin.
