MotoGP: Spanish Media Say Martin Wants to Leave Aprilia at Season’s End

Milan, May 12 (LaPresse) – Shocking rumors from Spain regarding the MotoGP market: Jorge Martín is reportedly considering leaving Aprilia at the end of the season. According to Marca, everything unraveled this weekend at Le Mans. On Friday, the Madrid-born rider made a lightning-fast car trip from his home in Andorra to the French circuit to hold several secret meetings with members of the paddock. The most crucial one was with his current team. In that meeting, the 2024 World Champion reportedly revealed he is considering activating a clause in his contract that could release him for the following season. Marca notes that nearly a year ago, when Aprilia signed Martín, the two sides agreed to include a clause allowing him to leave depending on his championship position after the French GP. Due to multiple injuries, Martín has yet to score points with Aprilia, having only raced in the Qatar GP, where he crashed on Sunday and fractured eleven ribs. The Spaniard has reportedly told Aprilia he is willing to extend the clause's deadline to the end of summer, at Misano. However, the Italian team has understood that Martín actually wants to leave. Unsurprisingly, this news came as a shock to Aprilia, who had placed the Spanish champion at the heart of their project. The team will try to retain him, but these developments could undermine mutual trust.
