Rome, 16 May (LaPresse) – On the penalty awarded to Roma and then overturned by VAR in Bergamo, ‘I stand by my opinion: I'm not saying whether it was a penalty or not. I'm talking about consistency in the application of the VAR protocol.’ These were the words of Roma coach Claudio Ranieri at a press conference ahead of Roma v Milan, scheduled for Sunday evening at the Olimpico. ‘There have been very similar incidents this season and VAR has not intervened,’ he explained. ‘I argue when it is a clear and obvious mistake, but VAR has never intervened in Italy or in the Champions League when similar incidents have occurred.’
