Milan, May 18 (LaPresse) – One of the most dramatic title races in the Netherlands ended with PSV Eindhoven crowned champions at the expense of historic rivals Ajax. A late-season collapse by the Amsterdam side wasn't salvaged by a win on the final matchday. PSV secured the Eredivisie title with a 3–1 victory over Sparta Rotterdam. American midfielder Malik Tillman scored the third goal to settle the nerves as Ajax were playing—and winning—at the same time. Ajax defeated FC Twente 2–0 at home, but it wasn’t enough for the team coached by Italian Francesco Farioli. The Amsterdam side finished one point behind PSV, despite having held a nine-point lead with five matches remaining. From that point, Ajax went on a four-match winless streak, with two losses and two draws.
