Milan, 19 May (LaPresse) – Despite his defeat at the Italian Open, Jannik Sinner remains firmly at No. 1 in the world and reaches 50 weeks at the top of the ATP rankings, both consecutively and overall. Sinner is set to become the fifth player to reach 52 consecutive weeks at the top after becoming No. 1 for the first time. Since the computerised rankings began, only Roger Federer (237 weeks, 2004-08), Jimmy Connors (160, 1974-77), Lleyton Hewitt (75, 2001-03) and Novak Djokovic (53, 2011-12) have achieved this feat. Behind him is Carlos Alcaraz, who defeated him in the final of the Internazionali Bnl d'Italia and overtook Alexander Zverev, champion in Rome in 2024 but beaten this year in the quarter-finals by Musetti. This means that at Roland Garros, where they will be the top two seeds, Sinner and Alcaraz can only meet in the final. Sinner has a 1,530-point lead over Alcaraz and 3,095 over Zverev. In Paris, the Murcian will not be able to add any points as defending champion. Zverev will see the points from last year's final disappear, while Sinner will lose those from the semi-final. Lorenzo Musetti will also be among the top eight seeds at Roland Garros, thanks to his semi-final appearance at the Foro. Here is this week's ATP top ten: 1 (=0). Jannik Sinner (ITA) 10,380 points; 2 (+1). Carlos Alcaraz (ESP) 8,850; 3 (-1). Alexander Zverev (GER) 7,285; 4 (=0). Taylor Fritz (USA) 4,625; 5 (=0). Jack Draper (GBR) 4,610; 6 (=0). Novak Djokovic (SRB) 4,080; 7 (=0). Casper Ruud (NOR) 3,905; 8 (+1). Lorenzo Musetti (ITA) 3,860; 9 (-1). Alex de Minaur (AUS) 3,635; 10 (=0). Holger Rune (DEN) 3,440.
