Turin, 19 May (LaPresse) – "Sinner or Alcaraz? Between the two, I'll stick with Sinner all the way. He played those two set points badly, especially the second when there was a long rally and he came out of it with a backhand down the line that went a metre wide. But we mustn't forget that Jannik hadn't played for three months. We would have been happy with two or three rounds, at most a quarter-final, but he went all the way. He proved he is a great champion and the strongest player in the world." This was said by Angelo Binaghi, president of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation (FITP), speaking on Radio1's “Radio Anch'io Sport” programme the day after Jannik Sinner lost the Italian Open final to Carlos Alcaraz. ‘If, at the start of the tournament, we had been told that the event would be such a huge success, that Jasmine Paolini would win the singles and also the doubles, that we would have a finalist and a semi-finalist in the men's competition, we wouldn't have believed it,’ he added. "It's a shame for Jannik, we had two set points in the first set and also an unlucky tie-break. Had we won one of those two points, we might be talking about a different story today. But that's tennis, it's a diabolical and fascinating sport. Now, as the guys say, let's fly to Paris and try to win everything as always."
