Rome, May 25 (LaPresse) – It had been in the air for days, and now it's official: Xabi Alonso is the new head coach of Real Madrid. The Spanish club announced the news in a post on social media.
"Xabi Alonso is the new coach of Real Madrid," reads the statement.
The 43-year-old Spanish manager returns to the club where he won six titles as a player and became a legend. He joins from Bayer Leverkusen, where he made history by winning the German league (Bundesliga), the German Cup (DFB-Pokal), and the Supercup.

Alonso took over Bayer Leverkusen in October 2022, leading the team in his first season to the Europa League semifinals and a European qualification. In the 2023/24 season, he won Bayer’s first-ever Bundesliga title, ending Bayern Munich’s 11-year dominance, also won the German Cup, and nearly completed the treble after finishing runner-up in the Europa League.
His spectacular campaign with Leverkusen included an unbeaten streak of 51 matches, a record that also covered his final season at the club, which started with the club’s first-ever German Supercup win in August 2024.
