Rome, May 31 (LaPresse) – "We had planned a long-term project. In my mind, there was the idea of growing together with a young team and some more experienced players with the goal of fighting for the league title in 2027, the centenary year. But instead…" said Daniele De Rossi, former Roma coach, in an interview with Corriere della Sera. "I know that in football, without results, no one gives you time, but everything was shelved way too early. Seasons now start in mid-August; we did pre-season training with 16 Primavera players, the transfer window was open, and the team was still to be built. I coached the last 4-5 signings for only a few days," he added.
What does he blame the Friedkins for? "Maybe for not talking to me before making such a drastic decision. And I probably should have called more often, given our relationship. But I still thank them for allowing me to coach the team of my heart. The final decision to sack me was theirs, but I believe it was heavily influenced, even with untrue versions, by those who are no longer here today. And who did not work for Roma's good," he replied.
