Sestriere (Turin), May 31 (LaPresse) – Chris Harper won the 20th stage of the Giro d’Italia, a 205-kilometer mountain stage from Verres to Sestriere. The Australian rider, part of a breakaway since the morning, claimed a solo victory. Behind him came Alessandro Verre (Arkéa – B&B Hotels), finishing nearly two minutes behind the Team Jayco AlUla rider. Simon Yates, who was third overall before the stage, 1'21" behind the leader, took the pink jersey from Isaac del Toro, virtually securing the final victory ahead of tomorrow’s parade stage in Rome. The British climber made the difference on the Colle delle Finestre, dropping both Richard Carapaz—who was the first to attack—and Del Toro himself. Yates finished the stage in third place, behind winner Chris Harper and Alessandro Verre, and broke down in tears of relief after crossing the finish line.
