Rome, 6 June (LaPresse) – On the fifteenth day of the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, Carlo Ancelotti's Brazil, in his debut on the green-and-gold bench, could not go beyond a 0-0 draw in Guayaquil against Ecuador, a result that nevertheless allows the Selecao to take another step forward towards reaching the final stage of the World Cup. Brazil is now fourth in the group, seven points ahead of seventh-placed Venezuela, which still has to play Bolivia. The top six teams in the group qualify directly for the World Cup. Ecuador, on the other hand, with 24 points, has already secured qualification. Argentina, already certain of qualification (first with 34 points), won 1-0 in Chile thanks to a goal by Julian Alvarez, while Bielsa's Uruguay lost 2-0 in Asuncion against Paraguay, which now has its sights set on qualifying for the World Cup for the first time since 2010. The Albirroja national team is now in second place, level with Ecuador, in the group of South American teams fighting for a place in North America next year.
