Rome, 6 June (LaPresse) – Italy has secured its second consecutive victory in Pool 2 of the Volleyball Nations League. Twenty-four hours after their victory over the United States, coach Julio Velasco's girls defeated Germany 3-2 (22-25, 25-10, 20-25, 25-13, 15-9) at the Maracanazinho in Rio de Janeiro. It was a hard-fought result, the product of a solid performance that saw the Azzurre show important signs of physical growth and, above all, improved understanding on the court, which was fundamental in responding to the effective and bold play of the German team at the end of five intense sets. Paola Egonu took her place on the bench in her libero jersey after suffering from hypotension during the morning's pre-match training session due to the heat and high humidity at the training ground in Rio de Janeiro. Egonu, monitored by the Italian medical staff, recovered quickly but was kept at rest as a precautionary measure ahead of the Azzurre's upcoming commitments in Brazil. Tomorrow, at 10.30 p.m. (Italian time), live on Dazn and streaming on VBTV, Italy will face South Korea with the aim of securing their third consecutive victory in Pool 2 in Rio de Janeiro.
