Milan, June 7 (LaPresse) – Coco Gauff is the new queen of Paris. The American tennis player, ranked No. 2 in the world and second seed, won the women’s singles title at Roland Garros by defeating world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus in three sets: 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-4, after 2 hours and 40 minutes of play. For the 21-year-old from Atlanta, Georgia, this is her second career Grand Slam title and her first in Paris, where she had previously lost the 2022 final to Iga Swiatek. Gauff also becomes the youngest player to reach the finals of both the WTA 1000 tournaments in Madrid and Rome (where she lost to Jasmine Paolini), and of Roland Garros in the same calendar year.
