Milan, 16 June (LaPresse) – Salernitana 1919 announces that it has cancelled today's training session due to a serious case of food poisoning that affected 21 members of the team, including players and staff, culminating in a series of illnesses during the return journey from Genoa after yesterday's play-off first leg against Sampdoria. The situation required the intervention of ambulances upon the group's arrival at Salerno Costa d'Amalfi airport and the subsequent hospitalisation of most of those involved." The club added that it “immediately activated all necessary procedures to protect the health of its members and informed the relevant authorities, reserving the right to take any action in the appropriate forums, sporting and otherwise, to protect the interests of the club and its members just a few days before the return match”. Therefore, pending the outcome of the investigation into the incident, Salernitana 1919 announces that it has ‘submitted a formal request to the LNPB to postpone the match against Sampdoria, currently scheduled for Friday 20 June, to a later date’. The match at Marassi ended 2-0 to the Blucerchiati.
