WTA Berlin: Coco Gauff eliminated by qualifier Wang

Milan, June 19 (LaPresse) – Newly crowned Roland Garros champion Coco Gauff was unexpectedly defeated by Chinese qualifier Wang Xinyu, 6-3, 6-3, at the Berlin Open on grass courts. Gauff, currently ranked No. 2, had won the French Open less than two weeks ago, claiming her second Grand Slam title.

In her loss to Wang, the American committed 25 unforced errors and seven double faults. Gauff had received a bye into the second round of the grass-court tournament, which serves as a Wimbledon warm-up.
