Milan, June 23 (LaPresse) – Sampdoria defeated Salernitana 2-0 at the Arechi Stadium in Salerno in the second leg of the Serie B relegation playoffs, securing their place in the division for the 2025–26 season. They had also won the first leg 2-0.

The goals were scored by Coda in the 38th minute of the first half and by Sibilli four minutes into the second half. The match was cut short around the 65th minute when home fans began throwing smoke bombs, firecrackers, and even seats onto the pitch. Referee Doveri initially suspended play and sent the players back to the dressing rooms. After an attempt to resume, he permanently abandoned the match due to further seat-throwing.

Sampdoria's survival seemed almost impossible just a month and a half ago, when the team finished third-to-last and was relegated to Serie C at the end of the regular season. However, Brescia’s points deduction—due to irregularities in salary and tax payments—allowed Samp to leapfrog them and earn a spot in the playoffs, which coach Evani’s side took full advantage of.

Salernitana, on the other hand, is relegated to Serie C for the first time since the 2014–15 season.
