Rome, June 24 (LaPresse) – Still on two wheels, but this time delivering power with pedal strokes. The Lidl-Trek team has announced that Spanish former MotoGP rider Aleix Espargaro will participate in the Tour of Austria, taking place from July 9 to 13. For the 35-year-old, it will be his first professional cycling race after retiring from racing a year ago. The Catalan joined Lidl-Trek last December as an ambassador and has participated in training camps with the professional team. After passing the tests, he was selected to compete in this stage race with the development team. "It will be fantastic because the week before the race in Austria, I will participate as a wild card in the Dutch GP. It will be a great challenge, but I have no expectations for my cycling debut. I will try to learn as much as possible, help my teammates, and above all, enjoy the effort," Espargaro said in a statement. Over his career, he has won three MotoGP races—in Argentina in 2022, and then in Great Britain and Catalonia in 2023. In total, he has collected eleven podiums.
