Football, death of Diogo Jota: possible tire blowout during overtaking

Madrid (Spain), July 3 (LaPresse) – The Spanish Guardia Civil, contacted by LaPresse regarding the car accident in which Portuguese Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota lost his life, confirmed that early investigations suggest a tire on the vehicle he was in with his brother may have burst during an overtaking maneuver. The accident occurred at kilometer 65 of the A-52, near the town of Sanabria. The car veered off the road and caught fire. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The Portuguese Football Federation, in a statement, expressed the condolences of all Portuguese football for the tragedy: "The Portuguese Football Federation and the entire Portuguese football community are deeply shaken by the deaths of Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva, which occurred this morning in Spain. Much more than a fantastic player, with nearly 50 caps for the senior national team, Diogo Jota was an extraordinary person, respected by teammates and opponents alike, with a contagious joy and a true role model in the community," reads the statement.
"We have lost two champions. The passing of Diogo and André Silva is an irreparable loss for Portuguese football, and we will do everything possible to honor their legacy every day," added Portuguese Football Federation President Tiago Craveiro.
