Turin, July 5 (LaPresse) – “Unfortunately, just over a month ago, an extremely unwelcome guest was found. I underwent an initial surgery, and next week I’ll begin treatment to try and improve the situation so I can have another operation in a few months. It’s a very tough match; I know full well it can be won or lost, but I’ll give it everything I’ve got, as always.” With these words on Instagram, Igor Protti—former striker for Livorno, Bari, Napoli, and Lazio—announced he is ill and has begun a treatment cycle. “And as always, I know I’m not alone. I have my great and wonderful family beside me, even if not all of them can be physically present,” he added. “Just like when I was on the pitch and felt part of a great community, today I feel the closeness of friends and of all those who have followed and cared about me. I thank the medical staff taking care of me and doing all they can to help me in this fight. I apologize in advance if I won’t be able to respond to everyone in the coming months, either by phone or here on Instagram. Sending you a big, strong hug.”
