Turin, July 5 (LaPresse) – The Tour de France opened with high drama as Jasper Philipsen claimed victory in a tight sprint finish in Lille, beating Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty) and Soren Waerenskjold (Uno-X-Mobility). Matteo Trentin (Tudor) finished fifth, the only Italian in the top ten. With this win—his tenth in the Tour—Philipsen of Alpecin-Deceuninck earns the yellow jersey. The stage was shaken up by crosswinds less than 20 km from the finish, splitting the peloton into a group of about forty and creating major time gaps. Among GC contenders, only Jonas Vingegaard (Visma Lease a Bike) and Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates XRG) remained in front, while Primoz Roglic (Red Bull-Bora hansgrohe) and Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) fell behind, losing 39 seconds. Tomorrow’s stage is 209 km from Lauwin-Planque to Boulogne-sur-Mer, featuring hilly terrain and a tricky finale.
