Volleyball: Vnl, Italy also beats Turkey, 3-2 for Velasco's girls

Rome, July 13 (LaPresse) – Italy's triumphant march in the Volleyball Nations League continues unstoppable. After victories over Belgium and Serbia, it was Turkey's turn to bow to the Azzurre, with a final score of 3-2 (25-19; 21-25; 25-20; 15-11).

In an Omnisport Arena in Apeldoorn filled with Turkish supporters, Italy claimed its 11th consecutive win in the VNL (out of 11 matches played), in the match valid for the fourth day of the third week taking place in Apeldoorn.

Captain Danesi and her teammates defeated the reigning European champions with another display of strength and consistency, overcoming difficult moments with composure and pragmatism. A true test of maturity, this performance propels the Azzurre into the Finals in Łódź, mathematically secured with the number 1 seed.

They are now just one step away from equaling the longest winning streak in Italian women’s volleyball history – 26 consecutive victories, achieved by Italy under then-head coach (and now assistant coach) Massimo Barbolini between 2007 and 2008.

That record could already be matched today, when Italy faces the Netherlands at 4 PM in their final match of the intercontinental phase – a clash that could put an exclamation point on this first part of the Azzurre's summer campaign.
