Tennis, WTA ranking: Paolini drops to No. 9, Swiatek returns to the top 3

Milan, July 14 (LaPresse) – Many changes for the Italian players in the women’s world rankings published this morning by the WTA following the conclusion of Wimbledon, the third Slam of the year. This week, the number of Italian women in the top 100 rises to three. Italy's top-ranked player remains Jasmine Paolini, who, however, could not repeat last year’s brilliant final and was eliminated in the second round (stopped by Rakhimova). The 29-year-old from Bagni di Lucca drops four positions and now sits in ninth place. Behind her, Lucia Bronzetti also slips, now ranked 64th, while Elisabetta Cocciaretto climbs an impressive 40 spots – thanks to her third-round finish at Wimbledon and her victory in the WTA 125 event in Bastad – re-entering the top 100 and rising to number 76.
There are also several changes in the global top ten. Aryna Sabalenka remains in the lead for the 39th consecutive week (and 47th overall, having previously held the top spot from September 11 to November 5, 2023). The 27-year-old from Minsk, who was stopped in the semifinals at Wimbledon for the third time, now has a 4,751-point lead over Paris champion Coco Gauff, who maintains her career-best ranking. Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek returns to third place on the podium; the Polish player and former world number one had lost her lead last autumn after a total of 125 weeks at the top (the last 50 of them consecutive).
