Rome, July 17 (LaPresse) – Gregorio Paltrinieri underwent an X-ray that revealed the detachment of a small bone fragment at the insertion of the extensor tendon of the third phalanx of the fourth finger of his left hand. This followed the trauma sustained during the 10-kilometer open water swim at Sentosa on Wednesday at the World Open Water Swimming Championships in Singapore, where he finished with a silver medal. This was announced by the Italian Swimming Federation (FIN). Paltrinieri, who trained normally today, will participate in the 5-kilometer race scheduled for Friday at 4:00 AM Italian time (10:00 AM local time), using protective taping on the interphalangeal joint. The situation will continue to be monitored daily. Paltrinieri is also registered for the 3 km knockout sprint (Saturday at 2:00 AM) and the 4x1500m mixed relay (Sunday at 2:00 AM). After the open water events, he will return to Italy.
