Milan, July 30 (LaPresse) – The Italian women’s sabre team, composed of Michela Battiston, Chiara Mormile, Eloisa Passaro, and Mariella Viale, was knocked out in the round of 16 at the World Championships in Tbilisi.
Yesterday, in the round of 32, Italy had comfortably defeated Iran with a score of 45-23, but today they were narrowly beaten by Spain, 45-42.
There is regret for the Italian team coached by Andrea Aquili, who managed to come back from a seven-hit deficit, but in the final moments the Spanish team prevailed, gaining revenge for their loss at the European Championships in Genoa. The Italian squad will now compete in the placement rounds.
