Milan, August 2 (LaPresse) – A brilliant Giulio Ciccone claimed a solo victory in the 44th edition of the Clásica de San Sebastián, the traditional World Tour race held in early August just after the Tour de France. The Italian rider from Abruzzo, racing for Lidl-Trek, launched a breakaway on the final climb alongside Primož Roglič and managed to drop all his rivals in the final stretch. He crossed the finish line alone, with a lead of 9 seconds over Swiss rider Jan Christen (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) and 19 seconds over Belgian Max Van Gils (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe). Thanks to Ciccone, an Italian returns to the top step of the podium in San Sebastián 18 years after Leonardo Bertagnolli’s 2007 win.
