Turin, Aug. 6 (LaPresse) – Luca Nardi was eliminated in the final round of qualifying for the ‘Cincinnati Open,’ the seventh ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the season with a prize pool of $9,193,540, currently taking place on the hard courts of the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Ohio (a combined event with a WTA 1000). The Pesaro native, ranked No. 97 ATP and the sixth seed in the qualifying draw, had defeated American Mayo (ranked No. 285) in straight sets in his opening match. However, in the battle for a spot in the main draw, he lost 6-4, 6-3 in one hour and 23 minutes to Belgian Alexander Blockx, ATP No. 121 and 18th seed, whom he had never faced before in his career. This result ends the hopes of the player from the Marche region of becoming the eighth Italian in the main draw and celebrating his 22nd birthday (he was born on August 6) in the best possible way.
